Shimla acts as the hub of India's tourism sector. It is also home to a number of colleges and research institutions, as well as several temples and palaces.

The buildings of the city are stylized in Tudorbet and Neo-Gothic architecture from the colonial era. The heritage walk starts from Christ Church which is located on the western shoulder of Jakhu Hill and eastwards towards the Viceregal Lodge.
